International Union for Muslims Scholars (IUMS) urges int’l bodies to resist govt’s HR violation, repression and torture
International Union for Muslims Scholars (IUMS) has expressed deep concern over the recent activities of Awami League-led grand alliance government in Bangladesh.
IUMS urged the government to immediately release all detained Islamic leaders and ensure their freedom of speech. It also called upon the Muslims world and international organizations to resist such wrongdoings of the incumbent government.
In a statement signed by its president Prof Dr. Yusuf al-Qaradawi and Secretary General Prof Dr. Ali Al Qaradaghi, they expressed deep concern over the government’s actions and strongly criticized the government for especially repressing the country’s pro-Islamists by imposing secularism ideology on the country.
Eight top leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami, which is the largest Islamic political party of the country, were put under trial for their stand against the incumbent government. The Jamaat leaders include: party Ameer Motiur Rahman Nizami, Secretary General Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mujahid, Nayeb-e-Ameer Maulna Delwar Hossain Sayedee, Assistant Secretary General Kamaruzzaman and Abdul Qauder Mollah.
It is apprehended that death sentence may be declared for some of them.
In this connection, IUMS clearly said that the cases and trial (in the name of war crimes) is ‘politically motivated’ because the issue was raised after four decades. And some of the accused were ministers; earlier, no allegation came against them; the ruling party earlier obtained political advantages from the Alem-Ulema. The organization thinks that the incumbent government wants to illuminate the Islam from Asian subcontinents through eradicating the prominent Islamic scholars. It wants anti-Islami and missionary groups to gain their interests. It don’t think about the Bangalee society.
IUMS cautioned the Bangladesh government about its activities especially limiting the appeal’s time to one month from earlier two months by amending the special act of the war crimes trial. If the government does any mockery against the prominent personalities in the name of the trial, the government and the nation will have to face a dire crisis, it warned. It is the law of almighty Allah that reprssiona and torture propel towards destruction.
The president once again called upon the government to release the detained Jamaat leaders including former Jamaat Ameer Ghulam Azam thus the issue couldn’t be turned into massive mayhem in region.
The IUMS leaders called upon the Bangladesh government to release Prof Ghulam Azam and others political leaders so that the captive issue don’t turn into a political ideal- conflict and social anarchy in the brotherly country.
The body prayed development and prosperity of Bangladesh, and agreed to the efforts of all to build and develop the country. It also expressed sympathy to martyred in the Liberation War. They want justice and not accusing any innocent person in the name of the trial.
IUMS urged all international bodies, independent nations and states and human right organizations to create pressure on the Bangladesh government about the ongoing threats to the public security, intimidation, arrest and violation of human rights. IUMS especially requested Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International to come forward in this regard.
